Turns out, someone found the solution manual to the textbook and pretty much everyone in a class of 70 was copying from it. I was literally failing the class until I ended up with the highest grade on the first test. I would see other people getting 8, 9, and 10's out of 10 and I could usually barely manage a 5. And he'd almost always pick at least one of the hard/practically unsolvable ones.
You would do an entire homework (think 20+ problems) and he would grade 2 random ones for correctness, and that was your grade. My favorite professor taught differential equations and while his class was amazing, god was the homework policy awful. Homework for credit is incredibly stupid.
